About
The JAFF Trope Inversion Bingo is a light-hearted fic-writing challenge for the Jane Austen fandom. Participants are challenged to write fics based on prompts that are inverted versions of popular Jane Austen fanfiction tropes.
How to participate
1. Use the bingo card generator to generate a bingo card. (Please copy or screenshot your card for safekeeping, as the generator will randomise a new set of prompts whenever the page is reloaded.)
2. Complete a bingo by filling three prompts from your card to create either a vertical, horizontal or diagonal line on the card. You can write a separate fic for each prompt or combine more than one prompt into the same fic.
3. Post your fic(s) wherever you usually post your fanfiction. AO3 users are encouraged to add their fics to the event collection, but you do not need an AO3 account to participate in the bingo.
4. Enjoy you bragging rights!
Schedule and deadlines
No schedule, no deadlines! The bingo card generator will remain up for the foreseeable future, and the AO3 collection will be open indefinitely. You can generate as many bingo cards as you want whenever you want and post your fics whenever you finish them.

FAQ
What if I really don’t like the prompts I got?
Go ahead and generate a new card!
Can I complete more than one bingo?
Sure! You can try for more than one bingo (or even a blackout) on the same card or generate as many new cards as you want.
Do I have to wait until I’ve completed all my prompts before posting to the AO3 collection?
Nope! Feel free to post your fics as you finish them.
Do fics written for the bingo have to be a certain length?
No. Anything from three-sentence fics and drabbles to sprawling epics is welcome.
What if I don’t manage to complete a bingo?
That’s all right! Be proud of whatever you did write.
Is each prompt specific to a particular novel/character/ship?
No. You can apply the prompts to any Austen novel, character or ship that you feel would suit. Some of the prompts are gendered because they are inversions of gender-specific tropes, but the rest are also gender-neutral.
I’d like to participate, but I don’t want to write smut.
Adult-themed prompts are opt-in: you can choose whether you want to include them on your card.
Can I use the prompts on my bingo card for a different (non-Austen) fandom?
Go for it! However, please only add Austen-related works to the AO3 collection.
The bingo card generator is asking me to disable my ad blocker, what gives?
Unfortunately, the platform that the generator is on (Perchance) can have trouble with some ad blockers. The generator doesn’t have any ads, but if you’d still prefer to keep your ad blocker on, feel free to use one of the public bingo cards above.
There's a bunch of new prompts! Where did they come from?
Fifty-something new prompts were added to the bingo card generator on 16th October 2024.
Who’s running this thing anyway?
The JAFF Trope Inversion Bingo is run by Rusakko. The list of prompts used in the challenge was compiled by Rusakko with the kind help of Caranya and branchcloudsky.
